 Job Description for Native English Teacher
CIS is one of Korea's elite private foreign language institutes. We focus on preparing students at all levels for their future in the global marketplace. CIS focuses on skilled students beginning at the elementary school level. Due to the special needs of younger students CIS does not offer kindergarten classes; therefore our teachers direct their energies toward students who are able to progress rapidly. CIS has high expectations for all students and employs skilled and professional staff to meet their potential.
A Typical Day
A normal day at CIS begins at 4:00 pm when students finish their studies at the public Korean school and head toward their designated private academies. Teachers teach an average of 6 classes each day at approximately 40 minutes per class. Students will study for one period with a bilingual Korean teacher studying grammar , reading , and listening skills. Next, the students will study the language skills of speaking and writing with the Native English Teacher . Classes are designed in such a way as to maximize exposure and build on existing skills. Teachers are given curriculum and texts that require little preparation and give them the freedom to focus on teaching.
Classes end at 11:00 pm when the high school students finish their daily studies. Teachers have ample breaks in between their classes each week to make copies of material, grade writing assignments, eat meals, and prepare for upcoming lessons.
Responsibilities include:
- Practicing punctuality for all class times
- Following the designated curriculum & showing respect for other staff members
- Reviewing new texts and submitting recommendations for future improvement
- Modeling an international pronunciation
- Exhibiting a care and concern for the betterment of each student
- Grading assignments on a weekly basis
- Creating new assignments which advance students' skills

- A Completion Bonus is available to all teachers who keep to the full terms of their contract. The bonus is equal to one month's salary and is paid upon completion of contract.
